Festival

Festival de La Roque-d'Anthéron 2026

The Festival de La Roque-d'Anthéron 2026 celebrates the piano in one of the most enchanting settings in Europe, inviting audiences to experience exceptional artistry beneath the centuries-old plane trees of the Parc du Château de Florans in Provence. From 16 July to 16 August 2026, this internationally renowned festival transforms a peaceful corner of southern France into a meeting place for the world's finest pianists, distinguished orchestras, and rising musical talents.

Programme
Gabriel Fauré: Cello Sonata No.1 in D minor, Op.109
César Franck: Violin Sonata in A Major (cello arrangement)
Nadia Boulanger: Three Pieces for Cello and Piano
Edvard Grieg: Cello Sonata in A Minor, Op. 36
Overview

The poetic piano of the unclassifiable Debargue and the virtuoso cello of Victor Julien-Laferrière in a program steeped in lyricism.

Born in the same year (1990), they have known and crossed paths with each other for a long time, but their collaboration is relatively recent. Lucas Debargue's career path is unusual: he truly began his piano training quite late (at twenty), before making a splash four years later at the Tchaikovsky Competition. Victor Julien-Laferrière's is more traditional, but no less remarkable, both as a cellist and as a conductor (the Festival, which also programs him with his Consuelo Orchestra on July 23, allows us to appreciate these two facets). The two artists focus on French music from the turn of the 20th century, with Franck's famous Violin Sonata transcribed for cello, Fauré's late Sonata No. 2, and Nadia Boulanger's Three Pieces. To prolong the romantic atmosphere, Grieg's Sonata for Cello and Piano.

"Lucas Debargue always manages to find something new and revealing." - The Guardian (2025)
