A powerful 50th-anniversary tribute you won’t want to miss.On Sunday 4 October, Regents Opera presents Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem, a monumental exploration of grief, remembrance and reconciliation in the aftermath of conflict. Conductor Ben Woodward leads a massed choir drawn from choral societies across southern England, joined by a full orchestra under the meticulous coordination of Alison Holford. Britten’s score intertwines the solemn prayers of the Latin Requiem Mass with the haunting realism of Wilfred Owen’s trench poetry, illuminated by the poignant solos of soprano Philippa Boyle, tenor Andrew Tortise and baritone Felix Kemp. From the austere stillness of “Requiem aeternam” to the stirring finale “Dona nobis pacem,” this performance marries choral passion and orchestral brilliance in service of a timeless message. Marking the 50th anniversary of Britten’s passing, this War Requiem promises an unforgettable evening of profound reflection and transcendent beauty.
