History

Based on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, Lionel Bart's Oliver! is a classic musical filled with unforgettable songs, colorful characters, and heartwarming adventure. Follow young Oliver as he navigates the streets of Victorian London in search of friendship, family, and a better life.

Synopsis

Orphaned and mistreated in a Victorian workhouse, young Oliver Twist dares to ask for more food, an act that leads to his removal from the institution. After escaping to London, he falls in with a gang of child pickpockets led by the clever Artful Dodger and their eccentric guardian, Fagin.

Unaware of the gang's criminal activities, Oliver is soon caught in a dangerous world of theft and deception. He finds unexpected kindness from Nancy, a young woman trapped within the gang's orbit, who recognizes Oliver's innocence and wishes to protect him. Meanwhile, the violent Bill Sikes becomes increasingly threatening as Oliver's circumstances begin to change.

As secrets about Oliver's past emerge, he discovers that there are people willing to help him build a new life. Through trials, heartbreak, and acts of courage, Oliver ultimately finds the love, security, and family he has always longed for.

Filled with humor, adventure, and memorable music, Oliver! is a timeless story about perseverance, compassion, and the triumph of hope over adversity.
