Memory and myth shatter in a one-hour multimedia performance blending live painting, film and immersive sound. Custom resonator instruments, double bass, voice and projected colour fields collide to probe the instability of history. The experience continues with an exhibition of Afshin Naghouni’s abstract paintings.In this groundbreaking one-hour immersive experience, multidisciplinary artist Afshin Naghouni and composer Amir Konjani fuse abstract painting, film and contemporary music to probe the instability of historical narratives and the contours of memory. Naghouni’s large-scale abstractions, inspired by Old Master compositions, are projected as ever-shifting colour fields onto a blank backdrop, dissolving familiar forms into luminous fragments. On stage a painter animates a canvas with bold strokes while eight double bass players, a vocalist and a full ensemble deploy custom resonator instruments under the direction of a conductor, weaving stuttering, expressionistic motifs and raw-edged sonic textures into a spatially expanded soundscape. Konjani’s score mirrors the paintings’ fracturing, alternating between decaying drones, punctuated gestures and moments of unexpected resonance that coalesce and disperse like scattered brushstrokes. The performance unfolds as a visceral dialogue between image and sound, inviting audiences to inhabit a world where myth, history and collective recollection blur. Following the performance, the venue’s adjoining hall hosts an exhibition of Naghouni’s abstract paintings, offering a quieter space to reflect on the traces of form and memory that linger beyond the stage.
