Overview

It is a performance where folklore and artistry meet, where the purity of myth dances hand in hand with the brilliance of Russian ballet.

The ballet The Snow Maiden enchants audiences with its magical score by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and its lyrical depiction of winter, love, and the delicate balance between human desire and the forces of nature. A visual and emotional feast, this production immerses viewers in a sparkling fairy-tale world, where every gesture and step tells a story of purity, passion, and the fleeting beauty of the season.

Libretto by V. Burmeister, based on the play by A. N. Ostrovsky, “The Snow Maiden”

The character of the Snow Maiden holds a unique place in Russian culture and, in particular, in the art of choreography.

The music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky for Alexander Ostrovsky’s play The Snow Maiden is a true masterpiece—one of the composer’s most inspired works—radiating light, rich colors, and a vibrant bloom of fantastical, vividly painted characters.

For Tchaikovsky, The Snow Maiden was a bridge between his early compositional experiments and his later masterpieces, including Swan Lake and Eugene Onegin. The composer himself admitted that he loved Ostrovsky’s play so deeply that he effortlessly composed the entire score in just three weeks.

On the stage of the State Kremlin Palace, Andrey Petrov’s production transforms this springtime tale into the power of an ancient pagan myth. A grand stage, dazzling costumes, monumental sets, original choreography, the perfection of classical dance, and the theatrical skill of a talented company combine to create an unforgettable and magical experience for both young and adult audiences alike.
