About
German baritone Michael Borth was a member of the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo at the Palau de les Arts, Valencia between 2015-2017 and in the Summer of 2017 he was a participant of the Accademia Rossiniana at the Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro, where he performed the role of Il Barone di Trombonok Il viaggio a reims.
This season, Michael will make his debut at the Komische Oper, Berlin as Schaunard La bohéme in a new production directed by Barrie Kosky, and he will join the Ensemble of Theater Freiburg singing the title roles of Eugene Onegin and Don Giovanni; Dr Falke Die Fledermaus; Marcello La bohéme and Golaud Paellas et Mélisande. In future seasons, he will return to the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona and ABAO Bilbao.
In the 2017/18 season Michael made debuts at Teatro Massimo, Palermo as Starveling A Midsummer Night's Dream; Opera de Oviedo as Belcore L’elisir d’amore; ABAO Bilbao as 5th Jew Salome; Theater Freiburg as Marcello in a new production of La Bohème and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona as the Sergeant Manon Lescaut.
In Valencia, his roles included Albert Werther (in a new production with Anna Caterina Antonacci); Starveling A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Astolfo Lucrezia Borgia; Benoit La Boheme and as Scabro Lucia Silla (Handel).
On the concert platform, he made his debut at the Berliner Philharmonie in 2014, performing Mendelssohn's Paulus with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, with Maestro Jörg-Peter Weigle, and whilst in Valencia he sang a programme of Schumann Lieder with Roger Vignoles
Michael studied in Weimar with Prof. Siegried Gohritz and in Berlin with KS Prof. Roman Trekel at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler.
