Judith Clurman’s Essential Voices USA (EVUSA)is one of New York’s preeminent choral ensembles. EVUSA performs in many of the city’s iconic venues and events and records and premieres works by America’s finest composers and lyricists.

Regularly on stage with the New York Pops in its Carnegie Hall subscription series, televised on NBC’s July 4thMacy’s 2014 Spectacular Fireworks and the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting, the ensemble comprises a talented roster of seasoned professionals and auditioned volunteers, dynamically fitted to the unique needs of each project.

EVUSA participated in the 2013 Presidential Inaugural activities and held a month-long residency at National Public Radio. EVUSA has performed with a diverse and impressive array of operatic and musical theater artists. The ensemble has premiered works and collaborated with composers Milton Babbitt, Jason Robert Brown, Shawn Crouch, Marvin Hamlisch, Rupert Holmes, Sheldon Harnick, Jake Heggie, Jennifer Higdon, Andrew Lippa, Nico Muhly, Stephen Schwartz, David Shire, Howard Shore, James Sizemore, Georgia Stitt, and Jonathan Tunick.  The group has produced The Composer Speaksat the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, a series of musical performances complemented by panel discussions with composers and lyricists. Their recordings include Celebrating the American Spirit, Cherished Moments: Songs of the Jewish SpiritHoliday Harmonies: Songs of Christmas,andSeason of Light: Songs of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, New Year.  Shawn Crouch’s Who Would You Be, a work commissioned by Judith Clurman and EVUSA, to commemorate the innocent murder of school children in the United States, was released in February, 2019, on the EVUSA Recordings label.  Recent recordings also include Stephen Schwartz’s anti- bullying piece Testimony and Immigrant Dreamswith Randy Graff and Brian Stokes Mitchell. The group’s educational program, EVUSA Youth Workshop, provides select high school students the opportunity to attend performances and participate in ensemble workshops.

Plans for the 2019-2020 season include Carnegie Hall concerts, releases of numerous recordings, and concerts in Washington D.C. and in public schools in New York City.

EVUSA’s mission is threefold:

  • Engage diverse audiences through dynamic programming and recordings, and by presenting new works that showcase composers and the art of composition;
  • Entertain through innovative and soul-stirring performances;
  • Enrich the lives of our singers, the New York community, and our audience-at-large by sharing our dedication to excellence and our deep love of music.

EVUSA has premiered works by composers Milton Babbitt, Jennifer Higdon, Nico Muhly, and Howard Shore. The group currently produces The Composer Speaks at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, a series of musical performances complemented by panel discussions with composers and lyricists.   EVUSA Youth Workshop provides select high school students the opportunity to participate with the main ensemble in the heart of New York City’s music scene.  They have recorded works of Marvin Hamlisch and Howard Shore. The ensemble’s recordings include Celebrating the American Spirit, Cherished Moments: Songs of the Jewish SpiritHoliday Harmonies: Songs of Christmas, and Season of Light: Songs of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, New Year.
