About

The Festival Verdi 2026 invites you into the emotional and musical universe of Giuseppe Verdi in the very region where his artistic legacy was born. From 1 to October 25, 2026, Parma and Busseto become the center of the international opera world, welcoming audiences to a month of extraordinary performances dedicated entirely to Verdi’s music.

The 26th edition of the festival unfolds under the evocative theme “Faraway Worlds”, exploring distant cultures, exotic landscapes, and universal human conflicts that inspired many of Verdi’s most fascinating works. The programme combines monumental operas, symphonic concerts, sacred music, and chamber events, creating a rich artistic journey through Verdi’s dramatic imagination.

At the heart of the festival stand three major opera productions. The rarely performed Alzira opens the season at the Teatro Regio di Parma, offering audiences a unique opportunity to discover one of Verdi’s early and seldom-heard masterpieces. Set in sixteenth-century Peru, the opera explores themes of love, conquest, and cultural conflict through music of striking lyrical beauty.

Another central production is Nabucodonosor (Nabucco), Verdi’s powerful biblical drama filled with monumental choruses and emotional intensity, performed in Parma with the grandeur and vocal tradition for which the festival is internationally renowned. Alongside it, Aida arrives at the historic Teatro Giuseppe Verdi, bringing together intimacy and spectacle in one of Verdi’s most beloved scores.

The festival’s concert programme adds further depth to the season. Highlights include the prestigious Gala Verdiano, celebrating Verdi’s birthday through music spanning different periods of his career, as well as a monumental performance of the Messa da Requiem, one of the greatest sacred works in the classical repertoire.

At this stage, the festival has announced the productions and thematic programme, while the complete casts and participating artists are still being revealed gradually. Only officially confirmed productions and events are currently available in the published programme.

At the Festival Verdi opera is not experienced as distant tradition, but as a living part of Italian culture. Historic theatres, the landscapes of Emilia-Romagna, and the deep connection between Parma and Verdi himself create an authenticity that cannot be recreated anywhere else in the world.

The Festival Verdi 2026 is more than an opera festival — it is an invitation to experience Verdi’s music where it still breathes most naturally: at the heart of Italy.
