About
Born in 1969 in Dijon, Frédéric Pattar first studied piano, accompaniment, writing and electroacoustic music. In 1994, he joined Gilbert Amy's composition class at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Lyon, where he obtained his diploma in 1998. He finished his studies at IRCAM where he followed the Cursus in composition and computer music in 1999.
He receives commissions from the Festival d'Automne in Paris, the Louvre Museum, the Alliance française de Hanovre, the CNSMD in Lyon, the André Boucourechliev Foundation (winner in 2005). His works have also been performed in France and abroad by ensembles such as the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, Les Temps Modernes, Accroche Note, the Ensemble Cairn and the Manfred Quartet. For several years, he has worked closely with the ensemble L’Instant Donné, for which he has written numerous pieces. He regularly participates in shows on France Musique and France Culture.
Frédéric Pattar pays particular attention to the articulation between music, text and visual representation. His music exhibits a very contrasting language: always tense, without concession, but not refusing a certain lyricism, it conceals a real dramatic intensity. Driving elements in his works, the rhythmic flows break in successive waves and mold the harmonic fabric, thus creating sound perspectives that are as obvious as they are unexpected.
