Overview

Musical brilliance and a magnificent orchestral sound

A Rheingau Festival season without Jan Lisiecki? Hardly imaginable! Why should one do without such an outstanding artist? The New York Times calls him "a pianist who gives meaning to every note"—and it shows! With profound musical understanding, brilliant technique, and an exceptionally engaging stage presence, Jan Lisiecki presents Mendelssohn's colorful and rarely heard First Piano Concerto this evening at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden. The work demands a finely balanced dialogue between soloist and orchestra—a challenge that Lisiecki and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra are only too happy to accept. Under the direction of its chief conductor, Thomas Søndergård, the National Orchestra of Scotland, for its Rheingau Music Festival debut, brings not only Malcolm Arnold's "Four Scottish Dances" but also Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, a work perfectly suited to the sonic brilliance and impressive stylistic versatility of this ensemble. All the more reason to be delighted that we can welcome this ensemble to Wiesbaden for a second exclusive evening…
