From 20 June to 5 September 2026, the Rheingau region becomes a vibrant musical landscape, bringing together internationally acclaimed artists, exceptional ensembles, and unforgettable concert experiences.

Programme
Johannes Brahms: Piano Concerto no. 2 in B flat major, Op.83
Johannes Brahms: Symphony no. 3 in F major, Op.90
Overview

Together with the young and exceptionally talented pianist Lukas Sternath, who is currently making waves on the international stage, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Jakub Hrůša, will present this next musical chapter in the exploration of Brahms’s outstanding oeuvre.

“There’s a mood in it that you don’t often find in Brahms! What wonderful melodies are there! It’s pure love, and it warms the heart.” With these moving words, Antonín Dvořák paid tribute to the Third Symphony of his friend Johannes Brahms. Highly regarded, especially for its richly colored orchestration and its uniquely lyrical third movement, it was composed in 1883 in the city where it will be performed at the 2026 Rheingau Music Festival: Wiesbaden. It’s not just the close connection between the work’s origins and the performance venue that makes this concert evening such a special moment – this evening also marks the continuation of the Brahms cycle that began last season and is planned to run for two years.
