Rheingau Musik Festival 2026

The Rheingau Musik Festival 2026 invites music lovers to experience one of Europe’s most inspiring summer festivals, where outstanding performances unfold among vineyards, historic castles, monasteries, and elegant concert halls along the Rhine. From 20 June to 5 September 2026, the Rheingau region becomes a vibrant musical landscape, bringing together internationally acclaimed artists, exceptional ensembles, and unforgettable concert experiences.

Programme
Sergei Prokofiev: Piano Concerto no. 3 in C major, Op.26
Pyotr Tchaikovsky: Symphony no. 5 in E minor, Op.64
Overview

The orchestra demonstrates its inquisitive approach this evening in the imposing Kurhaus Wiesbaden with Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony, which unfolds great compositional depth and romantic expressiveness, thus adding another important work to Hayato Sumino's brilliant residency finale.

A magnificent finale to Hayato Sumino's residency at the Rheingau Music Festival brings his residency to a close. What began with a performance of Rachmaninoff's sumptuous Second Piano Concerto now concludes with a performance of Prokofiev's Third Piano Concerto: a sparklingly virtuosic work and a bridge to modernity, brimming with rhythmic and percussive sophistication and richly colored textures – precisely the kind of music the Japanese pianist enjoys interpreting and bringing to the stage alongside his own compositions. The Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, founded in 1868, also operates within this tension between tradition and innovation. Since 2019, Paavo Järvi has led the orchestra – one of the oldest and most prestigious of its kind – as its chief conductor, guiding it with great passion into the future.
